My daughter who is 12 started using the traction chair at home for 15 min. in the am, and 20 min. in the pm. We plan to increase these times as she gets use to the routine. After two weeks we feel like her posture looks worse than when we started. Does the body reject treatment at first and fights against it, only to over compensate in a negative manner, or is this not the treatment for us? Her curve was at 25 degrees before we started. Have you had patients whose back became worse after the chair treatments?

Hi diwelsh,
It is not typical for the body to reject the scoliosis traction chair. The idea behind the chair is to traction the spine and de rotate the scoliosis. It is imperative that the patient is set up in the chair correctly. Sometimes as the spine begins to change it may appear that the posture is changing, we expect that in a good way. ; ) However, when in doubt we always recommend that you discuss those changes with the CLEAR practioner. Your CLEAR practioner will show you how to make sure the scoliosis traction chair is being utilize for optimal correction.
Please let me know if I can be of further clarification.

Please make sure you are under the care of a CLEAR-certified doctor before you buy a chair. The Scoliosis Traction Chair is only one part of a comprehensive treatment protocol; on its own, its effectiveness is limited.

I've also been made aware of counterfeit STC's that are being manufactured (I guess it's a sign of success, that what we are doing is working - as T.S. Elliot said, Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery), and I'm concerned that these chairs aren't effective in treating scoliosis. Plus, the prices I have seen for the imitation STC's are actually higher than what it costs to get one from a CLEAR-certified doctor. If you are worried that your STC might not be authentic, please contact me at jwoggon@clear-institute.org; I can tell you, very easily & quickly, how to know for sure.

Warmest Regards,

P.S. Yes, CLEAR does have a patent on the STC.
