Hi! I just learned about your therapy yesterday! I've been learning many posts, and I wonder what kind of results could I expect, I'm almost 22 and I'm not being treated by a doctor, my last x-ray, which was done when I was about 20 years old shows a 55º curvature Here are some pics: http://img200.imageshack.us/img200/871/august2009side.jpg This one shows the 55º curvature, and the last one shows the 16º curvature to the right and than to the left. http://img142.imageshack.us/img142/9808/august2009back.jpg I have pain most of the time. I can't seat down in a chair for more that about an hour because of the increasingly pain, and I can't stand up in the same place for more than like 20 minutes. I need to walk or lay down in bed. My neck is sore most of the time. And I feel tired and energyless all the time. My question is, what kind of results could I expect from your treatment given my current condition? Also, I'm kind of scared of asking this but, if I don't do anything what is expected that will happen to me? Will I become unable to stand up? :( |

Thank you for your post. There is probably something that can be done to help your condition. It looks from your pictures that you have a tremendous amount of forward head posture. That is when your head is not lining up with the center of mass of your neck, mid-back, and low-back. Often times these conditions can be very painful because your body is completly inefficient at fighting gravity, hence when you sit or stand for any length of time, your spine is not able to support your body. Instead your muscles have to do all of the work and they get very very tired. Average reductions of curvatures in CLEAR clinics are between 30-50%. The great thing about that is it will probably improve your function dramatically and reduce your pain levels. Unfortunatly if you do not take action, research tells us that your curvature will progress at a rate of 1-3 degrees per year. You can do some simple math and see how severe it may get because of your young age. Your best bet is to contact a CLEAR certified practitioner and have an initial examination that will allow you to determine with specifity how well you can expect to respond. Hope this helps, please post back with other questions. Dr. Michael Farrell |
