I am 17.5 years old. I have scoliosis since I was 13. One day i fell down in school and i got hip pain. My parents took me to the hospital and after examining my body with X-ray they told me that i have scoliosis in my spine / back bone, although my back bone was straight before that time. They advised me to use braces and I was given two different braces in 2005 but they did not make any difference.
Later on I was examined by a professor who was supposed to make an operation for me, after examining my health situation he said that my case is special and he refused to do the operation for me. He said that he prefer to do the operation for me in future because my scoliosis is 'flexible'.
Later on I was admitted in hospital twice or once a year for getting Pneumonia. At the begging, I used oxygen for sleeping time at home. One year later, I was admitted again at the hospital for Pneumonia. At the second time the doctors told me that I should use Bipap (breathing assistant device for sleeping time that pumps air). Before that I was told to use an oxygen breathing gas from cylinder. Then I stopped using oxygen breathing apparatus and since that time I have been using Bipap for sleeping time.
In 2006 i went to India for full body test, they did all types of tests for my body, nerves, blood tests, Genes test, and EMG testing for nerves for full body including the face. The doctor's final report said that my case is congenital myopathy, (weakness in the muscles of the knees and the scoliosis.
At school, my classroom is located on the fourth floor. I use the stairs several times a day, which makes me feel short of breath if i have flu or if I feel very tired especially after doing hard work. Otherwise I don't feel short of breath. I was told in India that the tunnels in my nose are very narrow which makes me need to use the Bipap for bed time. I was told that I should have no problems when I get to the age of 18 years.
At the start, the degree of my scoliosis was 32. The doctors in India told me that having an operation is not a good choice. They also told me that exercising and food can solve my problem. I have been to several physiotherapy clinics for more than two years since that time but is is not improving my case.
I hope I can find the appropriate treatment in your clinic,
I hope this is enough to explain my health condition,
Your assistance and care are highly appreciated.
Kind Regards
Ahmed Ebrahim
