Is Scoliosis Truly Asymptomatic?

When it comes to proving the need for scoliosis treatment, those opposed often state that scoliosis is asymptomatic, meaning there are no symptoms - such as pain - associated with scoliosis that need to be resolved. But is this really the case? Let's see what science has to say...

"Untreated patients did have more back pain and more body image concerns than study participants with normal spines, and three deaths were considered to be possibly linked with the deformity." Treating Scoliosis in Young Unneeded, Journal of the American Medical Association, 2003.
Isn't death considered a symptom worthy of treatment?

"The mortality rate was 15%. Backache was somewhat more common in these patients than in the general population..." Idiopathic Scoliosis: long-term follow-up and prognosis in untreated patients, Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery, June 1981.
And this was over 20 years ago!

"Over the long term, patients with idiopathic scoliosis suffer impairment of their sports activities compared with age-matched controls. The main reasons for this are functional impairment and the frequency of back pain." Sports Activity of Patients with Idiopathic Scoliosis at long-term follow-up, Clinical Journal of Sports Medicine, March 2002.

"The results of this study suggest that back pain is responsible for a considerable amount of disability and handicap in later life. Health professionals involved with the management of persons with AIS [adolescent idiopathic scoliosis] need to consider this important outcome and need to put into place procedures for the identification, investigation, prevention, and treatment of back pain." The Ste-Justine Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis Cohort Study, Part III: Back Pain, Spine 1994.
Sounds like it's not just a matter of pain, but future physical functioning as well!

It's time for our society to wake up to the truth: the need for scoliosis treatment is dire. Ignoring the warning signs - pain - only leads to greater handicaps later in life. Let's take the initiative before it's too late.

We Are Not Alone!

You might find it interesting to know that CLEAR Institute has the support of many well-known professional organizations committed to excellence in chiropractic. Here is a short list of organizations who have been invaluable supporters of our scoliosis technique:

Parker College of Chiropractic
Dr. Fabrizio Mancini, president of Parker College, has taken the lead amongst chiropractic colleges by sponsoring Scoliosis Correction Seminars taught by CLEAR Institute at Parker College, and also promoting the establishment of a Scoliosis Research Institute on campus in Dallas, Texas. If successful, this would be the first-ever scientific institution devoted to scoliosis to be founded at a chiropractic college! Parker College is considered by many experts to be the pre-eminent college of chiropractic in the world today; its seminars have been attracting chiropractors from across the US and around the world for over 50 years.

Williams Healthcare Systems
Tom Kenny, the president of Williams Healthcare Systems, recently visited Macao, China, to witness the groundbreaking ceremony of a new, state-of-the-art healthcare center combining the best of Eastern & Western medicine with the proven effectiveness of chiropractic! Williams is the largest supplier of chiropractic equipment in the world, and has been serving the chiropractic profession in the US since 1907. Now, thanks to Tom's vision, children with scoliosis in Asia may someday seek chiropractic care for treatment, and CLEAR Institute will be there to teach the doctors how it's done!

Myo-Logic Diagnostics
Dr. Harold McCoy, president of Myo-Logic & Spinal-Logic, has been proving the effectiveness of chiropractic through high-tech functional testing for over 13 years. His clinical expertise includes serving as the official chiropractor for the US Olympic Boxing Team in 1984 with Evander Holyfield, and seven years contributing to the University of Washington's Sports Medicine program. Dr. McCoy is an expert in how chiropractic care can improve physical functioning, and thanks to Myo-Logic's computerized system, CLEAR Institute can prove that its treatment methods are effective objectively and scientifically!
