Mikhail, Bone remodeling is accomplished by changing the stress upon the bone. This happens after skeletal maturity as well as prior. Research has shown that vibrational therapy can increase the process by which this occurs (Flieger 1998, Rubin 2001, Judex 2002, Oxlund 2003, Christiansen & Silva 2006, Xie 2006). This is known as Wolff's Law. Wolff's law is a theory developed by the German Anatomist/Surgeon Julius Wolff (1836-1902) in the 19th century that states that bone in a healthy person or animal will adapt to the loads it is placed under. If loading on a particular bone increases, the bone will remodel itself over time to become stronger to resist that sort of loading. The external cortical portion of the bone becomes thicker as a result. The converse is true as well: if the loading on a bone decreases, the bone will become weaker due to turnover, it is less metabolically costly to maintain and there is no stimulus for continued remodeling that is required to maintain bone mass. In regards to the deformation of the ribs, this is actually caused by the rotation of the vertebrae to which the ribs are attached, not by bony malformation. Because CLEAR treatment is effective not only at reducing the lateral curvature, but also the rotation of the vertebrae, this causes the rib arch to decrease visibly with continued care. One of the components of the exam conducted by CLEAR doctors is standardized photographs that are taken of the patient in Adam's Position (bending forward from the waist) in front of a Posture Grid. These are taken before & after treatment, and allow the patient to see the difference in the rib arch for themselves Have a fantastic day!, Dr. Bosler with research info from Josh Woggon |

Dear Dr. Bosler, Many thanks for your kind reply, the way I was looking at it - if the curve can progress even after the bones are formed and no longer growing, then it should be able to reverse the process to a certain extent as well. However what I continue to hear from all the doctors in my country (Czech Republic) is that once the bones are formed and fully grown there is nothing to reverse the curves and rotation of the ribcage. I would love to find out more about your method. Would it be possible to find somewhere the details of how is the treatment actually reforming the ribcage even if the ribs are fully grown in "scoliotic order"? |

Hi Mikhail, Our article published on September 14th, 2004, by Drs. Morningstar, Woggon, & Lawrence, earned the title of the Number One Most-Highly Accessed article in BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders with over 36,000 hits (number two has just under 24K): http://www.biomedcentral.com/bmcmusculoskeletdisord/mostviewedalltime/ Also, we are collecting data on 90 scoliosis patients. 90 out of 90 showed improvement initially, and we are in the process of following up with each one to determine the long-term results. A CLEAR clinic will be opening in Somerset, England. Intensive care involves two visits daily, each 2-3 hours in duration. While two weeks would be preferable, curvatures under 30 degrees are much easier to manage. The true effectiveness of the treatment, however, hinges more upon patient compliance with the customized home rehabilitation protocols. If scoliosis develops in accordance with the laws of physics & biomechanical principles, there is no reason why it cannot be corrected in accordance with those same principles! Like most things in life, it requires dedication & hard work. We don't offer miracles - just results. Weightlifting & fitness exercises are isotonic (with motion) exercises, which stimulate different muscle groups than those involved in scoliosis. Isometric (without motion) exercises are required to properly stimulate the core spinal muscles and reduce muscle imbalances which may have developed as a result of the spinal torsion. A CLEAR-certified doctor can show you how to modify your exercise routine so that you do not cause the curvature to worsen. However, isotonic exercise on its own will not be effective at reducing the severity of the curvature. A patient-specific isometric spinal rehabilitation program, based upon the individual x-rays & posture, has the potential of doing so. Hope this helps! Dr. Bosler

| Oh and I forgot to mention - I managed to almost get rid of my lumblar curve via 2 years of physiotherapy and excercises I do twice a day in the morning and afternoon, however, so far I`m quite helpless with my thoracic curve... |

Hello, may I kindly ask few questions- 1) have you already managed to collect enough data to prepare a statistical study (with large enough sample) on effects of your treatment - with ages, percentages of reduction of the curves, progression of the curves several months/years after finishing your treatment etc.? Sorry to say but all the info on your site looks just too good to be true. And it would be really invaluable to have a statistical proof of effectiveness of your treatment. 2) what are my options if I live in Europe? Is your approach already shared with some clinics in Europe? Or is it possible to come for the treatment to the US? How effective it is if it lasts only 1 week? 3) I`m 25 years old, currently have a mild S curve scoliosis (around 16-20 lumblar, and about 8-12 thoracic) - as usual "ribhumb on the right side", which probably started to develop when I started to play tennis. Then in 17 it progressed as I started doing bodybuilding and in 21 I quit as pains were stronger and stronger after each visit to the gym. Could it be fully reversed to the point when I could start doing fitness again? And can fitness/bodybuilding excercises be adjusted so that they reduce the curvatures instead of simulating them? Many thanks for your kind advice! Yours, Mikhail. |
