Hello, Chei; It's true that the CLEAR methods can be very challenging; it's much like going to an orthodontist for realignment of your teeth. If your muscles didn't ache after the orthodontics (braces) were put on, it would be a sign that the treatment wasn't achieving the correction that it was supposed to. There are exercises which can help you to get and stay out of pain, and help you to manage your scoliosis; the opinion that exercises are ineffective in the treatment of scoliosis are just that - an opinion, not based on fact. CLEAR protocols include providing a customized home exercise program that is specific for each patient; there is no "one-size-fits-all" approach to scoliosis treatment & exercises, because every case is unique. We also update our exercises regularly as we develop new & more effective ways of isolating & strengthening specific muscles, so be sure to stay in touch with your doctor to learn about these new exercises as they become available. The Scoliosis Traction Chair (STC) is designed to be effective in the rehabilitation of severe cases of scoliosis (over 30 degrees). Using a three-dimensional system of axial (up-and-down) traction, de-rotation, and lateral (side-to-side) traction, we can effectively create a "mirror-image" configuration of the scoliotic spine; then, using whole-body vibration therapy, we stimulate communication between the brain and the core postural muscles of the body to ensure the corrections in the chair are not lost when the patient gets out. It's an active therapy, aimed at what physicians call "neuromuscular proprioceptive re-education" - basically, erasing old postural patterns and implementing new ones. The STC is not effective when used on its own; it is only one part of a detailed and comprehensive treatment protocol, and every part is necessary to achieve long-term success. In addition, it is very important that the patient have the proper training & instruction in its use in order to achieve the greatest possible benefit. For this reason, only patients under the care of a CLEAR-certified doctor are allowed to purchase Scoliosis Traction Chairs. Please let me know if there is additional assistance or information I may provide! Warmest Regards, Dr. Josh Woggon jwoggon@clear-institute.org

Hi, I am 45 years old and have double curvature of about 44%. I have been living with scoliosis since I was a teenager. I constantly have backache, and it is affecting my sleep. I recently went to a Clear certified chiropractor outside the USA, and just started treatment for a few days. I am in-between jobs now, and therefore have time to go for my treatment everyday for a week. I find the treatment too intensive and aggressive for me, causing me soreness at my ribcage. I will be starting my new job in a few days time, and will not be able to commit to a course of treatment program due to my work commitment and working hours. While I have the desire to try out the Clear program, I am also realistic with my expectations given my age and the fact that I will not have the time to do consistent treatment. I note that the treatment at the Clear clinic are mostly machine facilitated treatment. I cannot rely on machines for the rest of my life and also would not have the time to regularly go for treatment at the clinic. I am just wondering if there is any lifelong recommended home exercise which I can do to help me manage my pain and arrest the progression of the scoliosis condition. My Clear chiropractor has given me some head weights and prescribed some neck exercises which I can do at home daily. But I would like some advice on back muscle exercises which will help to relieve the pain and also strengthen my back muscles. I am also wondering if the traction chair will help, and what does it do exactly. Would it be appropriate and effective for me to use the chair if I do not go for the treatment at the clinic? I hope someone will be able to share with me his/her experiences. Thank you. Chei
